The Ockham Kaupapa

We love Auckland. And over the past decade, we’ve assembled incontrovertible scientific evidence that Tāmaki Makaurau is one of the world’s loveliest cities.

Start with the Waitaks, start with Te Waonui-a-Tiriwa, the great forest of Te Wao Nui a Tiriwa, which is a grand entrance to the wild, wondrous West Coast beaches that rage beyond. Now to other side, to the east, to the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana with its 50 islands, then to the city itself built among 50 Tūpuna Maunga, the volcanic sentinels centring you wherever you are.

We strive to make buildings as beautiful as the landscapes they sit within. We call ourselves ‘urban regenerators’ – we want to play our part in making the new Auckland work, without losing the charm of the old. We look long-term: we see housing as infrastructure – the building blocks of community.

And building community is at the core of what we do. Outside bricks and mortar, we contribute in many ways: we are the lead sponsor of the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards, and we fund the Ockham Collective and Bridget Williams Books’ Texts Collection (among other initiatives). We are the lead private funder of Objectspace, New Zealand’s leading design, craft, and architecture museum based in Rose Road, Ponsonby.

We are also the proud sponsor of New Zealand’s most successful football team, the FIFA Club World Cup-bound Auckland City FC and the first XV of One Tree Hill College.

But we’re best known for our elegant and enduring buildings, which you’ll see on the following pages of this brochure. Buildings for Auckland.

We’ve finished 18 developments so far, won plenty of plaudits. But we have heaps still to do. Our mission in a single (admittedly long!) sentence: “To make beautiful buildings that people love to live in, homes that honour this dynamic Pacific city, stand the test of time, inspire others – and bring an awesome Auckland lifestyle to as many people and communities as we can.”

We have a track record of building homes that Aucklanders love. Even so, we know that buying off the plans can be an act of faith. It can be hard to visualise what a building looks like from the artist’s impression; conceptualising what an apartment feels like inside from a floorplan takes considerable imagination. While modern technology allows us to render our gestating buildings more accurately than ever, there’s no substitute for bricks and mortar.

And this is where potential Ockham buyers are at a distinct advantage. We’ve built up a substantial portfolio in our 15 years in the game – 1,227 apartments across the isthmus that both stand out and also belong to their communities. The photo galleries on our website will give you some idea, though nothing surpasses experiencing the buildings live. Set aside a few hours on a sunny Saturday arvo and check them out.
